Our society is welcoming great changes of the 4th industrial revolution,
and the culture and contents areas are changing rapidly with the advancement of technology.
South Korea once again proved to be a leader of IT through the world’s first successful service
of 5G in April. In the era of super-high speed, super-low latency and hyper-connected mobile services,
the cultural contents industry is facing new challenges and opportunities ahead.
Games are regarded as killer contents of the 5G era, not only in South Korea but globally.
The game industry has already become the mainstream cultural industry enjoyed by
over 2.6 billion gamers in the world. The Korean game industry has shown astonishing growth
to become the 4th largest market in the world with annual sales of 13 trillion won.
Over 60% of Korea’s contents export volume comes from games. The game industry is
the key driving engine of the Korean economy, and it has been evaluated as an important
content that maintains global popularity of the Korean culture.
This year’s Korea Cultural Contents Forum prepared by Financial News is an occasion
to take a look into the future of games, which are the core of the Korean contents industry,
in the midst of technology revolution. As we discuss the 'Strategy for New Contents Industry
in 5G Era – Future of Games,’ we hope to find the ways to strengthen the competitiveness
of the Korean cultural contents industry. This forum can perhaps assist the path to become
a cultural powerhouse.
We will always wish for your wellness. Thank you.
