Thomas Schneeweis
Professor/Isenberg School of Mgmt, University of Massachusetts

Professor Thomas Schneeweis is the Michael and Cheryl Philipp Professor of Finance at the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Massachusetts. He is the Founding and Current Director of the Center for International Securities and Derivatives Markets (CISDM), a nonprofit academic research center specializing in the alternative investment area at the University of Massachusetts (www.cisdm.org). He is the Founding and Current Editor of The Journal of Alternative Investments (www.iijournals.com). He is the co-founder and current board member of the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association (CAIA - www.caia.org), a global nonprofit educational association initiated by CISDM and AIMA (Alternative Investment Management Association - www.aima.org) that offers the CAIA designation program He is Academic Advisor to Credit Agricole Structured Asset Management (U.S.), outside Trustee for the Managers Funds (a mutual fund based fund of funds), President of Alternative Investment Analytics, an alternative investment management firm offering commodity based investment products and Chairman of White Bear Partners, an asset management company offering Managed Futures (CTA) based investment products. He is also Chairman of Schneeweis Capital Management (an investment consulting firm offering asset allocation, performance monitoring, and passive alternative asset investment strategy replication products). He has acted as Board member for the Managed Funds Association and as U.S. Representative for the Alternative Investment Management Association. He has formerly held senior positions at Lyra Capital (creator of the Dow Jones Hedge Fund Indices) and other alternative investment management firms. He has published over 100 articles in academic and practitioner journals in the areas of traditional and alternative investment, is a frequent speaker at professional and academic seminars in the area of alternative investments, has been quoted in most major financial publications, and has provided commentary on various US, Europe, and Asian financial news programs. He has a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa, an M.A. from the University of Wisconsin, and a B.A. from St. John's University.
 
 
Hans J. Blommestein
Head of Bond Market and Public debt Management Unit/OECD

Dr. Hans J. Blommestein graduated in economics from the Free University of Amsterdam where he obtained his Ph.D. on an econometric topic. 
In the period 1991-1995, he was the CSCE Professor of Economics, Department of Public Administration and Public Policies, University of Twente, Enschede, The Netherlands.In the period 1998-2000 he was the Head of the Financial Affairs Division of the OECD. He participated as Advisor in many IMF missions to Central and Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union., Dr. Blommestein was also on a few occasions a visiting scholar in the research department of the IMF. 
During his tenure at the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Blommestein was the Netherlands member of the OECD Committee on Capital Movements and Invisible Transactions (CMIT) and a temporary alternate Member of the Monetary Committee of the EC. 
Dr. Blommestein published numerous articles on econometric methodology, spatial economics, pension finance, the political and economic transformation process in former socialist countries, and financial markets. 
He served (or is serving) on several International Advisory or Governance Boards.
 
 
Matthew Moran
Vice President/Chicago Board Options Exchange

Matthew T. Moran is Vice President, Business Development, for the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), and is responsible for many of the exchange's marketing and educational efforts for pension funds, mutual funds, and other institutional investors. He had a leadership role in developing and marketing the CBOE S&P 500 BuyWrite Index (BXM) and the CBOE S&P 500 PutWrite Index (PUT), both of which received the annual Most Innovative Benchmark Index award at the Super Bowl of Indexing Conference. Mr. Moran also has served as Trust Counsel at Harris Bank and as Vice President at Chicago Mercantile Exchange. He is an Associate Editor of The Journal of Trading and is on the advisory boards of the Chartered Alternative Investments Analyst Association (CAIA) and The Journal of Indexes. He is a licensed attorney-at-law who has received M.B.A. and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Illinois.
 
 
Fabio Scacciavillani

Fabio Scacciavillani holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago and is the Director of Macroeconomics and Statistics at the Dubai International Financial Center. Previously he was Head of Economic Research at the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting, Executive Director at Goldman Sachs International, Senior Economist and Adviser in the Research Directorate of the European Central Bank and worked several years at the International Monetary Fund. He has published many scholarly articles, economic reports, market analyses and op-eds. He has been a consultant for corporations, hedge funds and the European Commission. His views are frequently cited on international media and news agencies.
 
 
Nelson Lacey
Director of Examinations/Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association

Nelson J. Lacey is an associate professor of finance at the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts. He came to Amherst in 1985 after having earned his Ph.D. in finance from the Pennsylvania State University. At Penn State he studied corporate finance and fixed income markets, topics that would guide his research over the next twenty or so years. He also worked in modeling the state economy, and designed a set of leading indicators for Pennsylvania. He earned an MBA from the Arizona State University in 1980, and became a CFA charterholder in 1999. Professor Lacey joined CAIA at its inception. He has been active in working on the program's curriculum and examinations since 2003, and became Director of Examinations in 2004. With the help of the CAIA Advisory Board and Curriculum and Examination Committee, he has been instrumental in designing the current CAIA exam format. Professor Lacey also directs the CAIA grading sessions (or Grading Jamborees, as they've come to be known), when members of the Association come to Amherst to evaluate Level II candidate essay responses. 
Professor Lacey's academic work has led to over 40 publications in finance and economics. His work in interest rate risk management and control led to the development of higher order closed form solutions for duration and convexity. His work in corporate finance examined Value Line stock ratings, the insurance liability crisis, and FDA decisions on the acceptance and rejection of new drugs. His corporate finance text book is now in its fifth edition. He has held adjunct teaching positions in places such as Poland, Greece, and Portugal.
 
 
Bud Haslett
CEO/Miller Tabak Capital Management

Mr. Haslett previously founded a derivatives-based investment management firm managing more than $300 million in conservative option strategies and spent two decades on the options trading floor, where he managed portfolios of stocks and options. Mr. Haslett is past president (2003-2004) of the 1700 member CFA Society of Philadelphia and is Chairman of the Board of Regents for the Financial Analysts Seminar (2005 to present). He is an active volunteer of the CFA Institute, having served in a variety of capacities including CFA exam grader (10 years) and as a member of the Council of Examiners (question writers for the CFA exam). Mr. Haslett has also taught coursework on options at New York University (2007), Johns Hopkins University (2006) and Rutgers University (1999 to 2001). He holds the Financial Risk Manager certification (1999) and has received a Master of Liberal Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania (2001), a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Investment Management from Drexel University (1982) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Shippensburg University (1980). He is the founding Chairman of the Derivatives Committee for NYSSA (2006) and is a member of the Institutional Investor Advisory Committee for the Chicago Board of Options Exchange, a group of the largest buyside option users in North America.
 
 
Ben Branch

Ben Branch is Professor of Finance at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he has taught finance, investment, banking, and industrial organization for over 30 years. He has previously on taught at Dartmouth College, the University of Michigan, and the University of Texas, and has served on the boards of several corporations, including the First Republic Bank, BankEast, Bank of New England, and Proactive Technologies. He is currently an associate editor of the International Review of Financial Analysis. He has published dozens of journal articles and book reviews. He is the author of Fundamentals of Investment for Financial Planning and If You are so Smart, Why Aren't You Rich. Pil-Kyu Kim

Dr. Pil Kyu Kim joined KSRI(Korea Securities Research Institute) 2005. KSRI is the one and only research institute for the capital markets in Korea. KSRI conduct various research projects and analyses of the securities market and the securities industry. Sponsored by various institutions in the securities industry, KSRI’s primary goal is to contribute to the development of the capital market and securities industry through researches on securities policies, market and industry. The major research areas of Dr. Pil Kyu Kim are bond market, structured finance market and corporate finance. Prior to joining KSRI, he worked for Korea Ratings which is one of the major domestic rating agencies in Korea. He was heading the Strategic Planning Team following the Public and Finance Rating Team and Asset-Backed Securities Team in Korea Ratings. Andrei Marcu
CEO/BlueNext

Andrei Marcu is Chief Executive Officer of BlueNext, the environmental exchange jointly owned by NYSE Euronext and Caisse des Dépôts, operating markets in carbon emission allowances and credits. He joined BlueNext in April 2008. Andrei Marcu was Senior Managing Director of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) in charge of Energy and Climate. Prior to that Mr. Marcu was President & CEO of International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), a business association with offices in Geneva, Brussels, Washington and Ottawa. Mr. Marcu spent most of his career in the electric power industry with Ontario Hydro in Toronto, Canada where he worked in various areas of the corporation. He worked on issues related to development as Director of Private Sector Cooperation in the United Nations Development Programme, in New York. Mr. Marcu holds a degree in electrical engineering from McGill University in Montreal and an MBA form the University of Toronto. He currently serves on the Board of IETA
 
 
Barbara K. Buchner
Energy and Environmental Analyst/International Energy Agency

Barbara Buchner, Ph.D. in Economics, University of Graz, Masters Degree in Economics within the Economics/Environmental Sciences Joint Program, University of Graz and University of Technology of Graz, is Energy and Environment Analyst at the International Energy Agency (IEA). She joined the IEA in January 2007 to work on climate and energy policy issues in the Energy Efficiency and Environment Division of the Long-term Co-operation and Policy Analysis Office. Before, she was working as a Senior Researcher at the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM), where she was involved in a number of activities related to FEEM’s Climate Change Policy and Modelling Unit in the field of environmental economics. In fall 2006, she was a Visiting Scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) within its Joint Program on the Science and Policy of Global Change & Centre for Energy and Environmental Policy Research (CEEPR). She is working on the qualitative and quantitative analysis of Kyoto Protocol mechanisms and of other policy approaches to greenhouse gas mitigation, trying to identify the incentives that are caused by different strategies in climate and energy policy. In this context, one of her main areas of work concerns the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme, where she is currently involved in an ex-post evaluation of the first trading phase. Special attention is given to the ancillary benefits of abatement measures and to effects concerning technical change induced by various policies. An additional research topic is the integration of climate change and energy efficiency policy issues. In this context, she also analyses the role of carbon finance in triggering investments in carbon-friendly technologies, giving particular attention to strategies to improve energy efficiency. Her main activities and responsibilities have so far included: research in the economics and policy of climate change, project management and development, organization and coordination of international workshops, participation in and presentations at international conferences and workshops.

Don Chance
Professor/Louisiana State University

Don M. Chance holds the William H. Wright, Jr. Endowed Chair for Financial Services at the E. J. Ourso College of Business at Louisiana State University. He was formerly the First Union Professor of Financial Risk Management at the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, and prior to his academic career, he worked for a large southeastern bank. Professor Chance has had numerous articles published in academic and practitioner journals and has authored three books: An Introduction to Derivatives and Risk Management, 7th edition (with R. Brooks), Analysis of Derivatives for the CFA Program, and Essays in Derivatives (2nd ed., forthcoming). He is often quoted in the media on matters related to derivatives and risk management as well as financial markets and the economy in general. He is a frequent consultant to companies, organizations, and law firms and has extensive instructional experience in professional training programs. He holds a Ph.D. in finance from LSU and is a CFA charterholder. Rick Grove
CEO/Rutter Associates LLC

Rick Grove is the Chief Executive Officer of Rutter Associates LLC, the New York based financial markets and risk management consulting firm. Mr. Grove has spent over 25 years working in the financial markets, as both an investment banker and a lawyer. From 1997 to 2001, he was the CEO of the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA). Following ISDA and before joining Rutter Associates, Mr. Grove was a Managing Director at Bank of America, co-managing the Global Commodity Derivatives Group. Prior to joining ISDA, he worked as a marketer in the fixed income and derivatives businesses at Paribas Capital Markets and headed the Financing Desk and the Fixed Income Syndicate Desk in New York. Mr. Grove originally joined Paribas as General Counsel of Paribas Corporation after practicing corporate law with Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York and London. Mr. Grove currently chairs the American Bar Association’s Task Force on Financial Engineering for Economic Development. He has served on the CFTC’s Global Markets Advisory Council and the World Bank’s Financial Markets and Development Conference Advisory Board. Mr. Grove has chaired ISDA’s U.S. Regulatory Committee and testified on behalf of the derivatives industry before the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. He is a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London, the bar of the State of New York and the ABA’s International Section. Sam Y. Chung

Sam Y. Chung, Ph.D., is Associate Dean & Professor of Finance at Long Island University in New York City, as well as a research associate of CISDM / University of Massachusetts and Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Alternative Investments. Dr. Chung is also Senior Research Analyst and Investment Committee Member at the SSARIS Advisors LLC - State Street Global Alliance Company. Dr. Chung received his Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Master of Finance from Boston College, and Master of Business Administration from Illinois State University. Dr. Chung has published various articles in journals such as the Journal of International Business and Finance, the Journal of Alternative Investment along with numerous research and consulting endeavors in the area of financial risk management and measurement. Richard Spurgin
Professor/Clark University

Richard Spurgin is an Associate Professor of Finance at Clark University. He holds a Bachelors degree in Mathematics from Dartmouth College and a PhD in Finance from the University of Massachusetts. His research centers on investment strategies that use derivatives and on performance measurement for hedge fund strategies and managed futures. He has published more than thirty articles in journals such as the Journal of Derivatives and the Journal of Alternative Investments and has assisted in the design of a number of alternative investments benchmark products including the CISDM Passive CTA Indices, the Dow Jones Hedge Fund indices, the AIA Commodity Index and the LME Metals Index. Professor Spurgin worked as a fixed-income research analyst prior to joining Clark. He remains in close contact with the professional finance community by serving on joint industry/academic advisory boards, collaborating on research projects with finance professionals, and through private consulting. He has also been actively involved with futures exchanges, having served on the institutional investments advisory committee for NYMEX and the Index Committee for the LME metals index. He has received research funding from the CBOT, NYBOT, and EUREX. He currently serves on the advisory board of the Journal of Alternative Investments, on the curriculum committee for the Chartered Alternative Investment Analysts Association, and the grant advisory committee for the Foundation for Managed Derivatives Research. Professor Spurgin is also Associate Director of CISDM, a research center that focuses on alternative investments and is a principal of the consulting firm Alternative Investment Analytics LLC located in Amherst, Massachusetts.
 
 
Hossein Kazemi

Dr. Kazemi is a Professor of Finance at the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He is an Associate Director of Center for International Securities & Derivatives Markets (www.cisdm.org), a nonprofit organization devoted to research in the area of alternative investments and home to CISDM Hedge Fund/CTA Database.
