Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, VinaCapital
With more than 20 years of experience in Vietnam, Don Lam is an authority
on investments, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings, and
privatizations. As a founding partner of VinaCapital, Don has overseen the
company’s growth from a manager of a single USD10 million fund in 2003
into a leading investment management and real estate development firm in
Southeast Asia, with a diversified portfolio of over USD3 billion in assets
under management. Over the past 15 years, VinaCapital has invested
nearly USD5 billion in Vietnam.
Seeking a way to give back to the community, Mr. Lam set up the VinaCapital Foundation, whose
mission is to empower the children and youth of Vietnam by providing opportunities for growth
through health and education projects. Over the past ten years, the Foundation has provided
lifesaving surgeries for more than 5,000 children in Vietnam, equipped hospitals and clinics with
essential emergency equipment, trained thousands of medical professionals, and provided
scholarships to ethnic minorities.
In addition to his role at VinaCapital, Mr. Lam serves on the Steering Board of the World Economic
Forum’s ASEAN Regional Business Council and is a frequent speaker at international investment
conferences and in the media.
Prior to founding VinaCapital, Mr. Lam was a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers (Vietnam), where
he led the corporate finance and management consulting practices throughout the Indochina region.
He has a degree in Commerce and Political Science from the University of Toronto and is the
recipient of an honorary doctorate in business from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.
