I give thanks to Financial Services Commission, Financial Supervisory Service, Korea Exchange, Korea
Securities Depository, Koscom, Korea Financial Investment Association and Korea Securities Finance
Corporation for supporting the 13th Seoul International Derivatives & Alternative Investments Conference.
Seoul International Derivatives & Alternative Investments Conference began in 2003 and has been held for
over 10 years as Asia’s best conference for derivatives and alternative investments. Without the interest
and supports from various institutes and financial companies, the conference would have not reached this
position. This year’s conference is very significant as the financial and economic environment is at a great
turning point. Under the theme of New Challenge, Coopetition’, we’d like to examine the domestic and
foreign changes in the economy and finance.
First of all, due to the change of American currency policy and expanded globalization of Chinese Yuan,
Confrontation between G2 countries is expected. We will deeply discuss what will be advantages and
treats to the Korean economy.
Moreover, we will talk about the paradigm change in activation policy for derivatives and alternative
investments market and regulations. The Korean derivatives and alternative investments market recorded
the highest trading volume in the world, it has been forced off for 4 years by China and India and now is
taking the 12th position. We will listen carefully to many experts’ advice about whether we could find the
glory back.
Lastly, we want to bring up ‘the Foreign Investment in Public Areas and the Future of Korean Financial
Industry’. We’re expecting deep and serious discussion about the role of Sovereign Wealth Fund and
Pension and Funds with the chief officers at the National Pension and Korea Investment Corporation.
I wish Seoul International Derivatives & Alternative Investments Conference can be a chance for investment
in the capital market at its turning point.
