Ognian V. Shentov Partner/Jones Day
Dr. Ognian Shentov is an experienced trial lawyer focusing on patent, trade secret, copyright, and complex-technology matters in the telecommunications, signal processing, software, medical device, artificial intelligence and financial industries. Oggie has led jury trials, arbitrations, mediations, and numerous claim construction and summary judgment hearings. He also advises clients on complex IP portfolio management and monetization and has prosecuted more than 100 patents with international counterparts. Oggie’s recent representations include the successful defense of Korean technology company SOLiD, Inc., obtaining summary judgment and jury verdict of noninfringement against a competitor. He is also lead attorney in a successfully instituted PTAB trial. Leading a medical devices trial, he obtained the largest reported civil verdict in the history of New Hampshire, affirmed en banc by the Federal Circuit. In addition, he defended DirecTV in a case about digital satellite television; Lenovo in a MPEG video compression litigation; appeared for several defendants in a dynamic web page generation case; defended Chevron in a trade secret misappropriation dispute about high-throughput technology; defended two open source software copyright infringement cases; and directed a joint defense group of international companies in a semiconductor manufacturing dispute. His practice has found him trying cases or leading hearings in California, Delaware, Massachusetts, New York, New Hampshire, Texas, and Virginia. Oggie is a four-term vice chair of the U.S. Patent Law Committee of the Intellectual Property Owners (IPO) association. He is the organizer and main speaker at the first section on “Artificial Intelligence: Issues and Future Directions,” at the IPO’s 2016 annual conference in New York City. Oggie has written several technical journal articles and has contributed to a book on digital signal processing. Seungwoo Son is the AssociateProfessor of Law at the Dankook University in Korea. His scholarship and teaching have focused on legal fields of intellectual property, public procurement, and antitrust.
