Lee, Ki Hwan

Dr. Ki Hwan Lee is currently a professor of corporate finance at Department of 

Shipping Management and the dean of Graduate School of Maritime Finance, 

Korea Maritime and Ocean University in Busan, Korea. He is also the director 

of Global Ship Finance Expert Training Program funded by Ministry of Ocean 

and Fisheries and Korea Shipowners’ Association. He served as the dean of academic 

affairs and the dean of College of International Studies at KMOU. Before joining 

KMOU in 1995, he also worked for Korea Development Institute from 1982 to 1994

 

He also served as a member of Management Evaluation Committee of public 

enterprises between 2003 and 2010. In addition, he has served as a member of 

several committees of Busan Metropolitan City Government since 1996 and he 

is currently a member of Shipping & Logistics Session of Policy Advisory Committee 

of Ministry of Ocean and Fisheries. He also serves as a member of Financial Hub 

Promotion Committee of Financial Services Commission.  He was a president of 

Korea Association of Financial Engineering and has also served as a director or

an editor of several finance-related academic associations since 1996.

 

He received his Ph.D. from Manchester Business School, University of Manchester 

in 1993. His recent research areas include shipping finance, IPOs, venture capital 

and entrepreneurship. In particular, he published many papers on the performance 

of venture capital-backed IPOs in the journals such as the Korean Management Review, 

Korea Venture Management Review, Korean Journal of Financial Management. 

He is recently focusing on shipping finance research. His major publications are as follows.
